W.G. “Snuffy” Walden, The Stand Soundtrack
ABOUT IT: It’s eerie and minor, full of resophonic guitar (that slidey stuff that makes western music so distinct).
W.G. “Snuffy” Walden, The Stand Soundtrack
ABOUT IT: It’s eerie and minor, full of resophonic guitar (that slidey stuff that makes western music so distinct).
ABOUT IT: Here’s another eerie track, filled with short, ominous, villain-style resophonic riffs. High noon on Main Street-style stuff.
ABOUT IT: This is a medley of three short songs, all perfect for the ‘verse. The tune goes from Celtic acoustic to a soulful Civil-war era celebration.
Jerry Douglas, Restless on the Farm
ABOUT IT:As the ship preps for liftoff, people are busy. There’s stocking to be done, goods to stow and a bustle that makes things exciting.
Eric Serra, Bandidas Soundtrack
ABOUT IT: Sometimes, the crew’s job has to get a little more creative. This is great caper music to go with the scheming and plotting.
Strength in Numbers, Telluride Sessions
ABOUT IT: I think of Serenity on Haven every time I listen to this track. Sad but moving slide and folk sound, with just a hint of reflectiveness.
ABOUT IT: A great reflective tune that can be used to wrap things up. Acoustic guitar with just a bit o’ the Celtic in it.
ABOUT IT: A cheerful and fairly upbeat slide guitar piece.
When I run sessions, I use dual playlists: one for sound effects, the other for music.
Here is a limited selection of the tracks I use. The links go to the iTunes music story

Zachary J. Mechlem, The Haight Gang
ABOUT IT: Sometimes in the ‘verse, things get a little primal. This track goes well with down-and-dirty fighting by using a world beat.
Bela Fleck, Tales from the Acoustic Planet
ABOUT IT:I lighted on it becauseof the name, but the feeling definitely fits. Warm, sparse and inviting.
ABOUT IT: It’s the virtual anthem for every two-bit backwater world your ship lands on. Down, dirty and blue collar slide goodness.
ABOUT IT: A good, modern-yet-Western track that reminds me of scenes around the common table on Serenity.
ABOUT IT: Something I used for my campaign that may be of use to you. It’s a threatening audio file from a nemesis that’s a little tailored, but broad enough to be posted here.
NOTE: I’ve got scores of music I use; this is
an outdated list. Expect an update on this
soon!
